What followed for the next few hours was quite a surreal riding experience although it's one though that I'll never forget. In this remote and distant corner of the UK, I felt more like a real adventurer than at any other time in my life.

Despite the weather, it still felt like an adventure. I would rather have stayed in bed, but the type 2 challenge of riding through the storm held some appeal at the time. After all, today was the day that I would reach Scotland, and our planned overnight stop was to be right on the banks of Loch Lomond, and I have been looking forward to waking up there since I planned the route.

LEJOGLE 2020 – Post ride reflections

It’s now around 3 weeks since the rollercoaster of LEJOGLE came to an end, and my range of thoughts and emotions since have also had lots of peaks and troughs. On the last day, to say I was struggling was an understatement. On Day 10, and getting over the Severn Bridge, I knew that I had just over 200 miles to go....

Riding Solo

Today is the day I sail to the Netherlands, for the biggest ride of my life.....except it’s not. 
No passenger ships are sailing, there is no race in the Netherlands or anywhere.
I thought I was ok with this.....

Finding Inspiration – Good reads (pt1)

Taking a glance at my book collection, it's not hard to understand why I feel compelled to travel all over the world with my bike.  My reading material transports me to far flung places, and it's usually around this time of year, when the evenings are dark that I bury my nose deep into the next epic cycling adventure.

Winter Solstice Overnight 2019

December 22nd is notable in my calendar for two reasons.  First, it's my daughter Abi's birthday.  Who knew 31 years ago that I would be doing the other notable thing, an overnight bike ride on the shortest day of the year and on a night where there were weather warnings galore?
